46. Miracles of Jesus (‘Îsâ)

Jesus’ miracles are more numerous and powerful than all of the miracles of prophets combined. Jesus makes the lame to walk, the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the mute to speak, the leprous are cleansed, the sick are healed, the demon-possessed are set free, the dead are raised to life.  In addition to His powers over humanity He shows His power over nature and the physical universe by turning water to wine, escaping supernaturally from a murderous mob, providing a miraculous catch of fish, multiplying the bread and the fish to feed thousands, walking on water, stopping the storm, curses an unproductive fig tree, and by walking through a wall after His resurrection.  These miracles of Jesus clearly demonstrate that He is fully God and fully man. He is who He says He is. Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

·      Read in The Qur’an - 3:49-51, 17:56, 10:42, 5:110

·      Read in The Tanakh and The Bible - Matthew 11:4–6,  www.trustworthyword.com/miracles

Readings from The Qur’an:

·      The Qur'an 3:49-51 And will make him ['Isa (Jesus)] a Messenger to the Children of Israel (saying): "I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I design for you out of clay, a figure like that of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's Leave; and I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I bring the dead to life by Allah's Leave. And I inform you of what you eat, and what you store in your houses. Surely, therein is a sign for you, if you believe. 50. And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Taurat (Torah), and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you, and I have come to you with a proof from your Lord. So fear Allah and obey me. 51. Truly! Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (Alone). This is the Straight Path.”

·      What miracles does the Qur’an describe Jesus doing?

·      Why are there so few examples of Jesus’ miracles in the Qur’an, but so many in the Bible?

·      What miracles does the Qur’an describe Muhammed as doing?

·      Why is this miracle of Jesus not in the Bible?

·      The Qur'an 17:56. “Say (0 Muhammad): "Call upon those - besides Him- whom you pretend [to be gods like angels, 'Isa (Jesus), 'Uzair (Ezra), and others.]. They have neither the power to remove the adversity from you nor even to shift it from you to another person.”

·      The Qur'an 10:42. “And among them are some who listen to you, but can you make the deaf to hear - even though they apprehend not?”

·      The Qur’an 5:110 “(Remember) when Allâh will say (on the Day of Resurrection). "O ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Remember My Favour to you and to your mother when I supported you with Rûh-ul-Qudus [Jibrîl (Gabriel)] so that you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you writing, Al-Hikmah (the power of understanding), the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel); and when you made out of the clay a figure like that of a bird, by My Permission, and you breathed into it, and it became a bird by My Permission, and you healed those born blind, and the lepers by My Permission, and when you brought forth the dead by My Permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from you (when they resolved to kill you) as you came unto them with clear proofs, and the disbelievers among them said: ‘This is nothing but evident magic.’”

·      What miracles of Jesus does the Qur’an speak to? What sort of miracles does it not mention that the Bible mentions?

·      Why does the Qur’an include references to Jesus speaking from the cradle and making a clay figure into a living bird when the Bible doesn’t speak of it?

·      Why does the Qur’an say Jesus wasn’t killed when the Bible and non-Christian historical resources testify that he was crucified?

Readings from The Tanakh and The Bible:

·      Matthew 11:4–6 “And Jesus answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you hear and see: [5] the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. [6] And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.’”
