III. My “Bias.” Your “Bias.” Beliefs. Worldviews.
Every person has some sort of “bias.” “Bias” sounds negative, and is sometimes used in an insulting manner when someone makes an exclusive truth claim. In those cases, “bias” is often used inaccurately to describe what is better phrased as beliefs or worldview. What you believe about Creation, God, life, and death is the most important thing about you. Your beliefs function like a pair of glasses. Your beliefs shape how you perceive the world. They become an essential part of your worldview.
I am a born-again follower of Jesus Christ (a Christian). I believe Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried but resurrected to life three days later. I call Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. I choose the Bible as my authority for how I view the world. These are my beliefs that shape my worldview. What are your beliefs? Your authority?
While I was raised in a Christian household, as I became older, I resolved to test the genuineness of my faith. I constantly researched the objective evidence for various world religions, sects, and cults to evaluate their exclusive truth claims. I wanted to know if what I believed was true or false. If I could find a worldview that better explained the reality around me, I was willing to change my belief system. I did not want to believe a lie simply out of convenience or to please others. I wanted to believe the truth. Are you willing to test your beliefs and worldview?
I believe that this book is a helpful resource both to me and others in order to compare monotheistic beliefs and test our faith. Whether your current beliefs have connections to the Qur’an, Tanakh, Bible, or none of them, I think that this book will be helpful to you.
Many will accuse me of being “biased” in writing this book. The reality is that every reader is also “biased.” You are reading with the “lenses” of your own beliefs and worldview. We all have our own exclusive truth claims that are connected to the beliefs and worldview that we have chosen. Let us test our beliefs and worldviews and try to best determine what is true. All exclusive truth claims cannot be true; they are either all false or one belief system will evidence its truthfulness above all the others. I hope that you enjoy this journey for truth with me!
1 Corinthians 15:12–19 “Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? [13] But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. [14] And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. [15] We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. [16] For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. [17] And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. [18] Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. [19] If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.” (ESV)
